Matt Caldwell
Elementary Principal
Matt Caldwell is a native of Columbus. He graduated from New Hope High School in 1991. After high school, Matt attended Mississippi State University. While at MSU, Matt was a three year football letterman as well as a two time selection to the All-SEC Academic Honor Roll. He graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Teaching and Coaching Education.
After college Matt began his teaching and coaching career at Columbus High School in 1996. He also worked as a teacher and coach at Mize Attendance Center, Seminary Attendance Center, Taylorsville Attendance Center, and North Forrest High School. In 2003, Matt received a Master of Science in Athletic Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.
In 2009, Matt completed the Mississippi Alternate Path to Quality School Leadership program and pursued his career in Educational Administration. He served as Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, and Head Football Coach at North Forrest High School, Taylorsville Attendance Center, and George County High School. Matt also served as the Chief Operations Officer for the George County School District.
Before he came to Heritage, Matt was the Dean of Students, Assistant Athletic Director, and Head Football Coach at Presbyterian Christian School in Hattiesburg. He has 27 years of experience in education, 13 as a teacher and 14 as an administrator.
Matt and his wife Melissa have two children, son Cade, who is a Graduate Assistant Football Coach at Delta State University, and daughter Charlsi, who is a sophomore at Mississippi State University.
