Honors English is designed to enable students to increase understanding and to gain a greater appreciation of all types of literature. Emphasis is placed upon writing, both expository and creative. Students will write to understand, to explain, and to evaluate. Honors English is a survey of American, British, and World literature by a wide-range of authors. Students will focus on critical analysis of works studied as well as considering the social and historical values of the works. Essays will be graded for content, structure, grammar, and mechanics.

Emphasis will also be placed on strengthening vocabulary skills and grammar and usage skills. There will be weekly vocabulary quizzes and grammar instruction as needed. There will also be a research paper first semester.
