Windows and Doors

Progress is being made on the Heritage House. Despite the rain, there are now windows and doors on the house.

Great job done by all who came out this Saturday to work on the Habitat house. As you can see on this photo, we have a roof and will get the shingles on next Saturday. We also hope to get the windows and doors in next Saturday also. We are ahead of where I thought we would be at this point. These young people have done an excellent job and have the best attitudes. It has been a pleasure to be a part of this with them!

Exciting things are happening on the Heritage House build site!!! We have the slab poured and the first exterior wall is standing! On Saturday, November 21st we will be holding a build day from 10:00 TO 2:00, and anyone 16 or older is invited to come out and build with our Seniors. We hope to get the second wall standing by the afternoon. On Monday, November 23rd, we have 30 students working two different shifts during the day! The JV cheerleaders are graciously providing these students with lunch. On Tuesday, November 24th, we will have a short work day in the morning. Please come by the site and encourage these kids as they are working hard to complete this build! Also, we would love any and all carpenters to come out and help us get the walls up!! Be looking for more updates and a workday schedule will be posted soon!

HERITAGE ACADEMY BUILDS A HOUSE!!

Article submitted by rmpbird@bellsouth.net

The senior class of 2010 is proud to announce that they have chosen as the first annual senior service project to lead Heritage Academy in building a house for Habitat for Humanity.

The official groundbreaking ceremony for “The Heritage House” will take place at 2:00 pm on October 18th at the building site in Caledonia. We will begin framing shortly thereafter and hope to have the house completed by May, in time to present the recipient with the keys to her new home during the 2010 graduation ceremony. These students are excited about building a house and leaving it as their legacy to both the school and the community.

An undertaking of this magnitude will require the help and the support of the entire Heritage family. We are in need of individuals who have construction skills and are willing to help with various segments of the project. Additionally, we would welcome material donations to offset the overall cost of construction. Beginning in October, there will be a schedule of work days posted on the website. We welcome everyone sixteen years of age or older to come build alongside us.

The recipient of “the Heritage House” has been waiting since 2007 to receive her home. She is currently a full-time student at MSU graduating in December with a degree in education. We believe it’s remarkable that a school, led by a group of forty-five students, would have the privilege of building a home for a future teacher. We need all members of the Heritage family, students, parents, and alums alike, to get on board and help us build “the Heritage House.”

“Can we build it? Yes we can…..together!!”
