First grade curriculum consists of Saxon Phonics, an in depth study of sounds and rules that enable children to code words making reading easier. Math includes grouping, measurement, weight, word problems,and subtracting and adding double digit numbers. The reading program includes grammar, comprehension, sequencing, and writing activities. Science includes the study of magnets, animal life, earth science and ocean life. Social Studies includes the study of American history, families, and community helpers. Accelerated Reading is a large part of our curriculum and instills a love of reading in the children. Good work habits and being responsible for work and actions are also taught.
