Link to Membership Form can be found below the letter.

June 9, 2010

Dear Heritage Parents and Friends:

The Heritage Academy Sports Boosters would like to thank everyone for a very successful 2009-2010 school year. Without your help, we would not have been able to assist the various athletic-related activities of our school. In a few weeks, the 2010-2011 school year will begin, and the sports season will be underway. The HA Sports Boosters continually supports, promotes, and enhances the athletic program at Heritage through its various fund-raising efforts.

Where do we get our funds?

The main sources of income for the Sports Boosters are derived through membership sales, concession stand sales, Draw Down ticket sales, logo wear sales, and football program ad sales. Membership is our largest fund-raising effort.

Where does our money go?

During the year, we paid down the debt on the gym expansion by $46,000, purchased a new mower for field maintenance, and funded two college scholarships. We also assisted the dance team with national competition expenses.

Sports Boosters works closely with the Athletic Department and the Administration of the school to prioritize and fund long-range projects that have a lasting impact on the school. This past year, Sports Boosters completed the expansion of the High School gym. This project will be funded over an approximate five-year period with money raised from Sports Boosters activities, such as membership drives.

How can you help?

You can help by becoming a member of Sports Boosters for the 2010-2011 school year. We offer four levels of membership with various benefits as described on the attached membership form. To become a member, please complete the enclosed form indicating the type of membership you would like to purchase and return it along with a check for the appropriate amount to the address on the bottom of the form. You may also deliver it to the High School office. In order for your name as a member to appear in the 2010 Football Program, your form and payment must be received by July 24, 2009.

Please consider becoming a member to help ensure the continued support of the athletic programs at Heritage. Without your continued support, the improvements to the athletic programs of our school would be greatly diminished.

Sincerely,

Heritage Academy Sports Boosters Membership Committee

Kirk & Vicki Hardy, Chairpersons

Heritage Academy named Apple Distinguished School

Columbus, MS — March, 29, 2010 — Heritage Academy is pleased to announce that it has been named an Apple Distinguished School for its 1:1 (one-to-one) MacBook Program and integration of Apple technology throughout the campus. The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for schools that have implemented a 21st century vision of education using Apple technology.

Pictured (l-r) are: Heritage Academy Headmaster, Tommy Gunn; HA Academic Dean, Betsy Gunn; Apple Education Senior Account Executive Mark Williams; HA School Board Member Mark Bean; and HA Elementary Principal Yandell Harris.

“Heritage is honored to have been selected as an Apple Distinguished School. I am continually amazed by the work of our students and teachers. Both students and teachers have fully embraced the one-to-one MacBook Program and learning experience,” says Tommy C. Gunn, Headmaster. The selection of Heritage Academy as an Apple Distinguished School highlights its successes in enhancing and extending teaching and learning with thoughtful and innovative implementations of technology.

The use of Apple technology begins in the elementary school at Heritage Academy. Elementary teachers and students enjoy the use of two mobile carts that can store, charge and transport up to 30 MacBooks to any classroom for use in grades K4-6. Sixth grade students have the additional convenience of four iMac desktop computers in each of their classrooms, and six iMacs are available for students in the Pathfinders program.

Heritage Academy issues a MacBook to every teacher and to each student in grades 9-12 as part of a 1:1 one-to-one learning program that capitalizes upon equal access to technology for all teachers and students. Heritage students in seventh and eighth grades make use of a computer lab with MacBook workstations and mobile carts containing 20 MacBooks that teachers transport to their classrooms for use by the students. All MacBooks access the Internet via a wireless network that covers the entire Heritage campus.

Students enjoy creating Keynote presentations, websites with iWeb websites, and iMovie videos that are used to share the information they have learned in class. The 21st Century classroom emphasizes the create-distribute-access-collaborate model for learning through the use of technology. Heritage students enjoy being ahead of the curve in this area.

Heritage Academy is a private, nonsectarian, and nondiscriminatory college preparatory school for students grades K4-12 in Columbus, MS. Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), the Mississippi Association Independent of Schools (MAIS), and the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS), Heritage Academy pursues the attainment of sound educational objectives in its efforts to provide quality education to the students it serves. More information about Heritage Academy is available on the web at www.HeritagePatriots.com

Apple Distinguished School – Heritage Academy was recently presented with a framed certificate and a banner to hang in the school recognizing that we have been named as an Apple Distinguished School for 2010. Heritage is one of 54 schools nation-wide to be selected for this honor this year and is the only school in Mississippi, public or private, to ever be named to this prestigious honor.

After their study of six major human body systems, Heritage fourth graders went to the expert with their questions. Students participated in a live video chat using Apple’s iChat video conferencing software on a school issued MacBook. Dr. Jeff Jenkins, Family Practice physician of White House, Tennessee, responded as students asked him about their wonderings. Dr. Jenkins explained to the students why we hiccup, gave them an idea of the actual size of their lungs, discussed what happens to our body when we sneeze, and answered many of their other inquiries.
