Elementary Morning Report

Good Monday morning! We are reporting live for WHAP and bringing you the latest Heritage Happenings for February 6, 2012.

Today’s lunch will be corndog nuggets or burger slammers, mac & cheese, and french fries. Tomorrow’s lunch will be turkey or ham sandwich, baked chips, and a cookie.

Student’s grades are available again through our new Power School program. Have your parents contact your teacher if you have any questions.

Heritage Academy Open House for prospective students will be held tonight. The elementary Open House will be from 5:30-6:30 and the high school Open House will begin at 6:30. All teachers need to be in attendance.

Students, don’t forget to be selling your tuition raffle tickets. The tickets will be sold for $20.00 a piece. Tickets will need to be turned in this Friday, February 10^th.

February 17^th will be a half day of school due to the District II AAA Basketball Tournament. After hours will be available. On that same day, students may show their support for the Mississippi Burn Foundation by bringing $1.00. The students that do bring $1.00 get to wear blue jeans to school that day. The money raised will go to help families of burn victims.

There will be no school on Monday, February 20^th, due to President’s Day.

The Bible verse for today is 1 Corinthians 13:4, “Love is patient, love is kind.”

“Dine for Dollars” ~ Eat a Bojangles today and they will donate 20% of your order back to Heritage! Make sure to tell them you are a Proud Patriot from Heritage! This offer is good until 11:00 p.m.”

The Student Raffle Competition is well underway! All students are asked to sell 5 tickets at $20 each. There are great prizes for those who participate! The competition ends Feb. 10th and the drawing will be Feb. 14th at the home basketball game. Students can turn in tickets and money to homeroom teachers at any time.

Raffle Ticket Turn In Day ~ Friday ~ All students should report to homeroom on Friday, February 3rd, to turn in the raffle tickets they have sold so far. Let’s see who is winning! Make sure the students write their name on the back of each ticket.

Students at the elementary school are enjoying using the brand new red shiny microwaves in the Elementary SAB. Seven new microwaves were purchased with money earned during the Fall Box Top competition.

Dance Team Tryouts Changed

Santa’s Sixth Grade Helpers

In lieu of exchanging gifts with one another, the sixth grade classes collected donations for the Columbus/Lowndes Humane Society. Mrs. Baird and Mrs. DeGrange’s class proudly display items for the Humane Society.

Town & Tower Honors HA Class of 2011 with Prestigious Award

At its December 8th Holiday Luncheon, the Town & Tower Club awarded the HA Class of 2011 with its annual Community Service Award. The award was given for the Patriot Park Project (the all access playground built at the Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle track). Rebecca Partain, HA Senior Leadership Initiative Advisor, accepted the award on behalf of the Class of 2011. Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle and Members of the Lions Clubs were recognized for their help and support with the project.

Students participate in the St. Jude’s 5K Run

After hosting the Fall Frenzy 5K, twenty-two members of the Heritage Class of 2012 decided to run the St. Jude 5K in support of both St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and Team Factor. Team Factor is a group of runners who run to raise funds for St. Jude’s and is sponsored by The Fitness Factor. Through the Senior Leadership Initiative and the Career Explorations class, the seniors have been challenged this year to “do hard things” that push one out of his comfort zone. Running in a race such as the St. Jude 5K was a challenging experience the seniors will not forget. The students did an excellent job representing Heritage Academy. Two students finished in the top 5% of 2,807 race participants. Matthew LeBrun finished ninth in his age division and 113th overall with a time of 25:24. Scottie Davis finished tenth in his age division and 115th overall with a time of 25:24 minutes as well. Garrett Hall finished eleventh in his age division and 144th overall. Students were inspired to run in the 5K after meeting with representatives from Team Factor who ran the Fall Frenzy in support of the seniors. Twenty percent of funds raised through the Fall Frenzy 5K were donated to Team Factor and ultimately St. Jude’s Childrens’ Research Hospital. In addition to running the 5K, students participated in the pre-race expo, enjoyed a pre-race meal at The Hard Rock Cafe on Beale Street, and enjoyed some great togetherness as a class.

Mr. and Miss Heritor Selected

Sawyer Perkins was selected Mr. Heritor and Reade Heredia was crowned Miss Heritor. The event was previously known as the Heritage Academy “Beauty Review.”

Soccer for Tuesday has been canceled, rescheduled for January 10, 2012

The soccer game for today against Pillow Academy has been canceled due to the weather. The game against Pillow has been rescheduled for Tuesday January 10, 2012. Varsity game will be played at 3:00 pm with the JV starting at 4:30 pm.
